Do your Ready-to-Grow mushroom growing kits have an expiry date?

Our Ready-to-Grow mushroom growing kits do not have an 'expiry date', however, we recommend that kits should be opened as soon as they are received as they contain live, growing mycelium that may suffocate if unopened, due to a lack of oxygen. All our mushroom kits must be opened within 5 days after the date of dispatch, otherwise the result isn't guaranteed.

Do I need to remove the plastic after I cut the 'X'?

Accepted Answer

No, please do not remove any plastic. Simply cut an 'X' shape on the front of the bag inside the kit. After cutting the 'X' you do not need to touch the plastic at all. Simply spray the cut area with clean water and the humidity will form a small microclimate that will allow the mushrooms to grow. Once the mushrooms begin growing, they will push the plastic out of the way

How do I spray my kit and how often should I do this?

Accepted Answer

We recommend to spray your kit as often as possible, preferably every few hours. Of course, this does not mean you have to get up in the night to spray it. Around 5-6 sprays should be fine.

Question 4

Do I need to remove the bag from the cardboard kit?

Accepted Answer

No, please do not remove the bag outside of the kit. The cardboard kit helps the mushrooms grow by concentrating the light only on the area where you have made the cut.

Where should I place my kit after opening?

Accepted Answer

Ready-to-Grow mushroom growing kits should be placed in a room that meets the temperature requirements listed on your instruction sheet, with good airflow and as much fresh air exchange as possible. This place should be clean and free of mould.

My kit has a white-looking mould inside - is this normal?

Accepted Answer

The 'white mould' that you can see is the mushroom mycelium. These can be thought of as being the 'roots' of the mushroom and the mushrooms grown from the kit can be thought of as being the 'fruit' yielded. White mycelium is a great sign of a healthy kit.

My kit has not produced mushrooms yet - what can I do?

Mushrooms can sometimes take a little while longer to grow. This is because mushrooms can be affected by conditions such as temperature and humidity. We advise you to keep looking after the kit for another 1-2 weeks.

How long will it take for my next harvest to appear?

Accepted Answer

Kits will typically yield another harvest in around 2-3 weeks, given that the right humidity and conditions have been maintained for the kit. If you feel the substrate has dried out, you can always pour a cup of filtered water onto the substrate to rehydrate it. The key is to ensure that the substrate is hydrated.
